Flexible lens wear is the term used when a patient has a lens type which can be worn as an extended wear lens but only occassionally wears the lens overnight. Most nights the patient removes them.
A term which was used when extended wear lenses were first introduced was permanent lens wear. At that time lenses were commonly worn for 30 days without removal. Due to the problems that developed and to use better terminology to impress on the patient that lenses must be removed often, permanent wear is no longer generally used.
